This is my first full-circle production project since February 24, 2022, when russia attacked Ukraine. Despite a rocket hitting my office and looters stealing my filming equipment, I am persevering in my work. Below, I will describe what it's like to shoot during a war in the country and share insights into the crowdfunding process for video production.
PROJECT INPUT: INITIATING VIDEO PRODUCTION
In August 2022, we started the contract and I embarked on a video production project for the client’s Kickstarter campaign. Given the ongoing war in Ukraine, the client had understandable concerns and worries about the feasibility of filming in such challenging circumstances. Fortunately, during the summer, the frequency of intense shelling by Russian missiles in our cities had reduced.
As mentioned earlier, due to the war, all the members of our office team had to disperse and move to different cities. A significant number of them chose to relocate to the capital of Ukraine – Kyiv. Consequently, we had to search for a suitable location in the Kyiv region and carry out the project there.
CROWDFUNDING VIDEO PRE-PRODUCTION
Any product video production I do involves mood board and storyboard development. First, I analyze references from the client, offer my ideas, and then the artist draws an individual storyboard for this project. This crowdfunding video production was no exception because this is a professional approach to video production, which helps to save time and money for the client.
Once the storyboard was finished, I took all the frames, references, and visual effects examples, voice-overs, and edited them together into a draft video. The client reviewed and approved the entire storyboard, gaining a clear understanding of what the final video would look like even before the filming commenced. With all the details agreed upon, we moved on to the next stage of the crowdfunding video production process.
CROWDFUNDING VIDEO PRODUCTION PHASE
The filming process spanned two days, during which we rented multiple locations and involved three separate groups of actors for different parts of the video. Each group was filmed with meticulous timing, thanks to our precise planning and thorough preparation.
Despite the client’s product being centered around adult content, they commissioned a crowdfunding video production for Kickstarter. This necessitated maintaining a careful balance between showcasing passion and avoiding vulgarity (adhering to acceptable platform rating guidelines). Fortunately, we were able to capture visually stunning shots that perfectly captured the brand’s desired aesthetic and mood.
With the expertise of our skilled gaffers and the use of modern lighting shooting gear, we successfully achieved a lighting pattern and color scheme that precisely matched the branding of the application. By incorporating pink and yellow lighting, we were able to create a subdued and intimate atmosphere within the shots. As a result, the final video seamlessly aligns with the overall branding identity, presenting a cohesive and unified visual experience.
The entire process of product video production was carried out strictly according to the storyboard, so we did not waste time in vain. We shot frame by frame, which we later used in post-production, and did several takes so that we could select the best ones. For example, to add the application interface to the phone screen in the future, a splash screen with chromakey and dots was installed on the phone.

CRAFTING COMPELLING SCENES IN POST-PRODUCTION
The idea of this project was not only to shoot beautiful shots but also to involve extensive post-production services on these shots. Initially, I thought over each frame, and during the filming of a particular scene, we filmed it with further processing in mind. Thus helping yourself in post-production video.
One of the most interesting and difficult scenes is the scene with the transformation of the actors into an angel and a demon.
Experience is often acquired through learning from mistakes. In this particular project, during the filming process, I made the mistake of using marker trackers in the corners of the actors’ eyes. As a result, my team and I had to invest approximately 50 hours in post-production to clean up these markers from every frame of both actors.

The final video contains a huge number of different animations and motion designs that make the video more attractive.
Separately, I want to say about the color correction of the crowdfunding video. Due to the fact that we shot on a Blackmagic Ursa mini 4.6 camera and in BRAW format, working with source files in DaVinci Resolve, we had the opportunity to make professional video grading.
EXPANDING OUR BUSINESS PRESENCE ON STOCK PLATFORMS
During the filming of this product video, I had the opportunity to realize my old idea and start a new, different direction for my company – Onzego Stocks. In addition to filming the crowdfunded video for Halos and Sins, we also captured various footage that we later uploaded and made available for sale on stock platforms.

FINAL VIDEO
I’m grateful to the client for trusting me and my team to create content for his crowdfunding campaign: crowdfunding video production and post-production services. Despite all the war and danger, we are Ukrainians, a nation that stands and continues to live. We completed the task and created an amazing video that performed perfectly during the advertising campaign. The client and his entire team were delighted with the whole service, which was written in detail on our Clutch account
In turn, I continue to work, every day improving the quality of post-production services and the approach to filming so that Ukrainian production is highly competitive for all foreign companies. I have assembled a team of video production professionals, which includes: a cameraman, director, production designer, gaffer and make-up artist, post-production, and color correction specialists. We have adapted to the new conditions and I think over each project to the smallest detail in order to provide the client with high-quality video production services at all costs.

What Must Be in a Crowdfunding Video?
The key to successfully crowdfunded video production is demonstrating the product and its benefits. After all, we are talking about attracting potential investors. That is, people need to understand that they are investing in something tangible which will work as presented in the campaign. We show the development process and team members whenever possible when producing a crowdfunding video. We also demonstrate the product’s benefits, which can solve a person’s problem.
