This is my second collaboration with this client. Our goal was to create product videos for another diaper backpack to be featured on their Amazon store. This time around, we adjusted our approach and considered some nuances in the product video production process. Read on to learn about our experience and the results we achieved.
PROJECT INPUT
The client is a company specializing in products for babies and moms, offering their products on Amazon. We recently completed our first video featuring one design of a Diaper Backpack. This time, we worked with the second design of the Diaper Backpack, maintaining our goal to highlight the numerous benefits of the backpack and showcase the product in a variety of colors, based on our previous experience.
VISUAL PLANNING: MOODBOARD & STORYBOARD
As this was a recurring request for commercial video production, we were already familiar with the desired outcome and the client’s preferences. We used the mood board from the previous project and simply adapted a few shots from the storyboard to fit the new request. This approach allowed us to optimize both speed and budget expenses for the video production process.
This time around, the storyboard was more precise and consistent. In addition to crafting the storyboard and incorporating frame references, I also provided separate notes for the cameraman and actors, specifying the duration of each frame (as we initially set a one-minute limit). This approach helped maintain proper emphasis, allowing the director to understand the expectations for each participant during the shoot.
By working on a second iteration of the project, we were able to save the client both time and money while delivering even better results.
My experience in video production has taught me that mood boards and storyboards serve as crucial foundations for streamlining the filming process and optimizing post-production services. Before filming even begins, we have all the necessary props, agreements with actors, and a clear understanding of the amount and type of footage required. This approach eliminates chaotic shots that are challenging to piece together during post-production and saves time for the entire team, ultimately benefiting the client’s budget.
THE CREW’S VITAL ROLE IN COMMERCIAL VIDEO PRODUCTION
Just like all our projects, an entire team was dedicated to this client’s commercial video production. This ensures exceptional results for our clients, and we’re proud to say that Ukrainian video production can hold its own against many international companies.
Our product video production team is made up of a diverse group of talented professionals, including a director, cameraman, lighting expert, producer, production designer, and makeup artist. Each team member contributes their unique skills to ensure a seamless and cohesive shoot.
My team functions like a seamlessly coordinated machine, ensuring timely commercial video production without missing deadlines. I’ve brought together a group of experts, each fully aware of their responsibilities and committed to achieving the best results together.
PRODUCTION WORKFLOW
During the product video production for this project, we filmed at three locations: a cafe, a kitchen, and a living room.
CAFÉ SCENE SHOOT
Often, the camera’s frame can look quite different from real life. For instance, we adjusted a backpack’s placement in a shot by setting a chair on top of apple boxes. To make the backpack appear more appealing, we filled it with a blanket, making it heavier and smoothing out any creases.
Some time later, in another advertisement, I noticed a character who seemed oddly familiar. It turns out it was the same actor wearing the same outfit.
Now you can compare how with the same “resources,” one can create a beautiful image while in another case, it turns out rather tasteless, as in this example.
KITCHEN SCENE SHOOT
To capture an overhead shot, we built a set of C-Stands and mounted a RED Komodo rig on it. We then connected the camera control to a smartphone, allowing the director to easily manage the composition, object arrangement, and camera recording all from one device.
LIVING ROOM SCENE SHOOT
It’s crucial to emphasize the importance of attention to detail in product video production, particularly during the filming process. We planned the props ahead of time, as every element surrounding the actor plays a significant role in the overall beauty and cohesion of the scene. For example, we rented a stroller to demonstrate how the backpack attaches to the handle. However, the backpack’s color blended with the couch, so we used a plaid pattern to create contrast.
Our production designer was responsible for addressing these nuances and ensuring the beauty of each frame.

FINAL VIDEO
I was excited to collaborate with this client once more, as they were satisfied with our commercial video production approach and left a fantastic review on Clutch after working with us. We take pride in the outcomes of our product video production and are delighted to create content for their Amazon store that will be viewed by hundreds of thousands of people.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)
How to Shoot a Product Video?
Product video production necessitates a thorough comprehension of the purpose and target audience. As a business promotional tool, it aims to boost conversions and sales. When filming a product video, it’s essential to pinpoint the target audience, their pain points, and demonstrate how your product can alleviate these issues, ultimately enhancing their quality of life. I always conduct an in-depth analysis of these aspects, followed by the creation of a mood board and storyboard to outline the video’s color scheme, mood, voice tone, script, and post-production elements.
